May Modern Medallion Month 4 - 8.5" Border

Thanks for another great medallion month, ladies! We are really enjoying the sharing and friendship that these medallions are bringing for each of us. At the end of the session, we are hoping everyone will bring their medallions, in whatever stage they're at, so that we can spend some extra moments getting great pictures of each of them for a finale gallery.

This month, if you are following along (and again, it's ok if you're not!), you could be working on an 8.5" border or some combination of smaller borders that make up that size. Several great examples were shown and will be emailed out this coming week. Thank you all for your patience regarding last month's patterns. Life gets complicated and sometimes it ebbs and flows, sometimes we're just getting washed out to sea!

And again, thank you all for being willing to combine meeting times for our last few months. It works better for the store this summer, and hopefully in June we can meet outside in the beautiful outdoors. I don't know about you, but the bird song makes any get together better.

Happy quilting!

April Modern Medallion - Month 3 - 5.5" border

Friends! We keep seeing more medallions being begun and others growing. Thanks for taking the leap with us. Please check our flickr medallion group for the update. We also appreciate that additional projects are being shared from other fabric exchanges and other session samples and even other quilts catching your creative fancy. Those can always be found on our class show and tell flickr group. And still others love to just come and enjoy being inspired at this point in life. We love it all!

This month we're adding a 5.5" border, so your medallion before next class could measure 40.5". We shared five different borders this month, and all of those will be emailed to you in the coming week. If any of you are not receiving the monthly email, please let one of us know.

Anna's paper-piecing class is all but filled, and she will be sending an email out this week with a supply list.

Thank you, thank you ladies for coming when you can and bringing a piece of you to share with our group. We were a little rowdy today during show and tell (and will do better next month), but I know that I appreciated everything that was shared. We understand that you are giving us a peek into your soul when you stand in front of us with your fabric art. And it is beautiful.

Retro Rubies QAL Invite

Here is the detailed information about the quilt along our members were invited to join because of our group's flickr site.

Alyssa Lichner at Pile O' Fabric has invited anyone who would like, to join a quilt along (QAL) on her blog for her newest pattern, Retro Rubies. You would use your own fabric and need to purchase the latest issue of Modern Patchwork, a beautiful magazine, which can be preordered at this point.

She will also maintain a flickr group for the project here.

March Modern Medallion - Month 2 - 6.5" Border

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! And thank you for sharing your beautiful quilts with all of us this month. It's so fun to see what some of you are working on. I notice each class that we seem to have different people bring a quilt in varying stages each month. I love the variety and it makes me feel good when I've had a not-so-productive period myself. The quilting gods have been fed for me!

All of your medallions were so beautiful, and I look forward to seeing us add onto them, and maybe seeing some new ones next month. They are up on the Medallion Flickr group to the left of this blog. And the beautiful quilts that were shared are on our regular class Flickr group as well, including both classes. Enjoy!

Be looking for your email from JoyLyn this coming week with exact instructions for all four of the sample borders we shared today in class. This month we're going to add a 6.5" border to your center, so that when you are done, your new quilt should measure 30.5" at this stage.

Anna will be getting an email out this week for those of you who joined the gray fabric exchange. As a reminder, we will begin exchanging 8" squares during April's class. If you missed class today but would like to join the fabric exchange, email one of us this week and we'll happily add you to the list. The sign ups for Anna's paper-piecing class in May are at the cash register. Feel free to sign up anytime before the 4th, as long as the class isn't filled.

And be sure to email JoyLyn if you would like to reserve a spot for our free sew-in next month. Seats for that are limited to space available as well.

Finally, here's the link to the plus sign quilt I showed in class today. So fun and easy, I really encourage you to find some fabrics from your stash that seem happy to you and make your own, in addition to mine!

If there's ever anything we said we'd post during class, books or notions we'd order or items we said we would bring next month for you, please hold our feet to the fires and do not let us forget! We don't mean to forget.

Happy quilting! We love having you in our group.

February Modern Medallions - Centers

Happy love month, everyone! I was certainly feeling it in class today. It was so nice to see some new faces as well as our long-time friends. We are so excited to begin this new session with our Modern Medallion Mystery. We know we gave you a lot of information this morning, so here's some of the highlights to remind you.

Today you should have recieved a punch card (or will next month if you missed today). A few reminders about the card:
  • Do not lose it! No fabric/discount can be used without it.
  • You get 1/2 yard equivalent each month, and some ladies wanted to get their 5 months worth at once. Feel free to do this, if it helps your medallion journey. You can pick up this fabric any day.
  • The 15% discount on anything in the quilt shop is available only on class days.
  • The 25% discount on batting/backing/binding needed to finish your quilt will be available in July.
JoyLyn will be emailing you all three of our patterns for our medallions, as well as each month's borders within a few days after each class. If you are not receiving these emails, please email her. We don't want you to miss out! And we also encourage you to find whatever patterns/blocks inspire you, regardless of what we show in class.

We now have a second flickr group just for our medallion show and tell. You can get to it by clicking here, or always clicking the link on the left side of this blog. The original link to our class show and tell is still there as well, and will include both groups' beautiful pictures.

Sign-ups will be available in March's class for the gray fabric exchange, which will go April-June, as well as a separate paper-piecing class taught by Anna May 4th, 10am-12pm. This class will cost $15 with more details to come. We are also planning on having a free sew-in after class this session, and will let you know when that sign up becomes available.

If you keep a quilt blog, please let us know so I can put a link to it on our list. And feel free to check out other class members' blogs to the right of this post.

And lastly, if you would like to see the quilts I chose out of the many, many Modern Medallions online, check out the bottom of this post.
